James Hill Ukulele Initiative – Newcastle, November 2015
Our next Ukulele Leadership event is in Auckland, New Zealand, as part of the New Zealand Ukulele Festival. Please spread the word. There are too few opportunities for this kind of collaboration, networking and training. Book here for that, (or click the above logo). If you’d like more info, read on.
We also have an upcoming workshop focussed on repertoire – RATPAC. Click here for more info.
Ukestration is about leadership, good arranging and a fun and social ukulele teaching method.
For five years we have made our living locally, teaching and leading ukestras in the Hunter Valley, Australia. Through our travels to other ukulele-mad parts of the world we haven’t come across anything very similar to how we do things, and we haven’t found many teachers and leaders who have been as successful in their local communities as we seem to be.
Because we want this ukulele revolution to be sustainable, we run various ukulele leadership and teaching initiatives, both here in Australia and, increasingly, overseas.
For three or more years we have been running Ukestration Workshops for existing groups in various parts of the world, helping them to change and improve their playing and learning. But we also we want to share our leadership knowledge and experience with other leaders and teachers.
In late October 2014 we ran our first and very successful Ukulele Leadership Training. We held this straight after a gathering of Australian and New Zealand Ukulele Teachers and Leaders – the TALAUG. And this was just prior to the weekend where we partnered with James Hill to present the inaugural Australian JHUI. Oh boy! Was that a big week!
In May 2015 we ran a ULT for the Brisbane Ukulele Musicians’ Society (BUMS Inc.). That too was a great success. And in July 2015 we took our first tentative steps into the US. We met some great people, and, as usual, had really positive and constructive feedback.
